You will learn to apply the core principles of risk and change management in your industry and understand how digital transformation affects business models and workforce dynamics.

We focus on communication, stakeholder engagement, and developing an organisational culture that nurtures digital adaptation. Using critical comparisons of digital business models and strategies, you will build the skills to assess risks and opportunities and evaluate the broader impact of digital disruption and innovation across various industries.

Seminar-based learning engages students with the material and each other as they forge a practical and strategic approach to apply in their field. 

Ongoing assessments offer feedback throughout the course. Clear assessment rubrics and criteria are applied to each topic, and students’ progress will be assessed through examinations, assignments, projects and exercises culminating with a proctored written test that is 100% of the allocated marks for the module.

Risk and Change Management in Digital Business Environments is a 5 ECTS module delivered over 4 hours per week for 12 weeks. An indicative schedule of topics to be addressed each week is outlined below:

Module leader

Jan Renz, German University of Digital Science

Jan Renz is Chief Technology Officer at German University of Digital Science, and has a rich background in computer science and education. He earned his undergraduate degrees in Journalism, Political Science, and Sociology from JGU Mainz in 1997, followed by a Postgraduate Degree in Media Informatics from Beuth University Berlin in 2003, and a Doctorate in Computer Science from the Hasso Plattner Institute in 2020. 

Jan currently serves as CTO & Senior Lecturer at German UDS and Domain Architect for Education at Dataport AöR since 2023. His previous positions include Consultant at the Federal Ministry of Education and Research and Research Associate at the Hasso Plattner Institute. Jan has led pivotal projects like the National Education Platform and MERLOT, significantly contributing to the field of educational technology.
