Student Voices: Grace Rubinger on Growing Into the Digital Future

Student Voices

From Data Analyst to Digital Leader

In our latest Student Voices post, we hear from Grace Rubinger, a current student on the Digital4Business Master’s Programme.

From Retail Operations to the World of Data

Grace’s route into the Digital4Business Master’s programme followed a career trajectory shaped by curiosity and a willingness to change direction.

“My professional path did not begin in data. I started out in the technology sector, then moved to Retail Operations. Over time, I found myself increasingly drawn to the world of data analytics — the ability to turn information into insight, and insight into action. That interest eventually became a real career shift.”

For Grace, enrolling in the programme was about deepening her understanding of the changes she was already living through professionally.

“We are living through a period of rapid technological change, and I knew I did not want to simply watch it happen. I wanted to understand it more deeply, contribute to it, and prepare myself for the opportunities and challenges ahead. For me, the programme was a way to build a stronger academic foundation around the practical experience I was already gaining in my career.”

The Decision to Apply

When exploring her options, one aspect of Digital4Business set it apart from other programmes.

“What made Digital4Business stand out was its unique international and collaborative nature. The fact that it is delivered jointly by four top European universities immediately gave it a different feel from other programmes I considered. It offered not only academic quality, but also a broader perspective and the chance to learn alongside people from different backgrounds and cultures. That combination of prestige, diversity, and connection was a major part of its appeal.”

The Learning Experience in Practice

Two modules in particular have resonated most strongly with Grace so far.

“The modules on Digital Transformation and Data Science have stood out to me the most. They connect closely to my current work, which has made the learning especially relevant and engaging. I’ve really enjoyed exploring not just the technical side of these subjects, but also their strategic business impact.”

As someone already working in the field, Grace is eager to see the programme continue to build on its applied elements.

“As someone already working in the field, I’m always eager for even more hands-on application, and I’m looking forward to seeing more of that as the programme develops.”

Connecting Study to Career

For Grace, one of the most rewarding aspects of the Master’s has been how directly it maps onto her day-to-day professional life.

“In my day-to-day work, I see the practical impact of AI and data-driven decision-making. The programme adds another layer by helping me understand the broader strategic context behind those changes. It’s helping me think not just about doing the work, but about leading in this space in the future.”

Balancing Study with Work and Life

Grace manages the programme alongside a full-time role and family life, and has found that a consistent routine is what makes it work.

“Balancing the programme with work and family life takes structure and consistency. I’ve found that having a clear routine makes all the difference. I usually watch lectures twice a week and set aside additional time for readings and assignments. That steady rhythm helps me stay engaged without becoming overwhelmed.”

Looking to the Future

As she progresses through the programme, Grace’s ambitions are clearly focused on leadership and strategic impact.

“I’m most excited about developing further on the strategic and leadership side of digital transformation. Data is already a central part of my professional identity, but I want to continue growing beyond analysis and move toward shaping the digital future of organisations in a bigger way.”

She views the Master’s not as a credential alone, but as a defining investment in her next chapter.

“This Master’s is more than a qualification. It is an investment in the next chapter of my career — one that will help me deepen my expertise, broaden my perspective, and prepare for leadership opportunities in data, AI, and digital transformation.”

Advice for Prospective Students

For anyone weighing up whether to apply, Grace’s message is simple and direct.

“Go for it. It is a real commitment, but it is also a real opportunity. If you are curious about the future of business and technology, and you want to be part of shaping that future, this programme is absolutely worth it.”
